Introduction To Character Design - 6 Weeks (6PM PST Wednesday)

Start date June 5 -2024. Class will take place via Zoom live Wednesdays at 6:00pm PST. Class will run about 2.5 hours. Homework will be uploaded on a designated Discord channel.

Are you ready to exercise and flex your character design muscles?!!! Are you looking to update your portfolio or dip your toes in the world of character design? In this class I will share my process for designing characters for feature animation. This introduction course is designed to help artists of any skill level conceptualize characters quickly and efficiently. We will look at ways to simplify shapes and proportions when designing your characters, as well as using reference to push character acting/ special poses. Each week we will look at characters from 2D and 3D animated projects as well as feature films. We will learn how to analyze what makes a great character design and how to apply that knowledge to your work. By the end of this course, you will be able to generate unique and appealing characters that are driven by emotion and story.

This class is limited to only six (6) students so that I can give my full attention to each and every one of you. After purchasing this course, you will be emailed a link to our private Discord channel joined by other past and current students.

Each class will begin with homework review, followed by a short lesson and demo for the remainder of class. Everyone is encouraged to ask questions during class. Don’t be shy!

This class is for all skill levels although I do recommend having some basic drawing knowledge. I will be using Photoshop in class. You are welcome to use any software you like (photoshop, procreate, etc.).  You may also work traditionally if you prefer. Old magazines, scissors, and glue are suggested for the first homework assignment but not required.
